LITERATURE IN THE COMMUNITY

California Lectures raised awareness and the enjoyment of literature in the Sacramento region and promoted literary and cultural engagement among all members of our community. California Lectures provided:

Lecture Previews

In partnership with California State University, California (Sacramento State), California Lectures provided free biographical seminars about each of the authors, presented by a Sacramento State professor.

Radio Broadcasts

Through a unique partnership with Capital Public Radio the literary events were recorded and later broadcast on the station, as well as other National Public Radio affiliate stations. The partnership enabled California Lectures to reach an even broader audience, including underserved communities with little or no access to literary arts programming.

Sponsored Tickets

California Lectures sponsored hundreds of tickets each year for low-income students and community organizations serving underserved populations. The program provided access to our speaking engagements and Lecture Previews, and created opportunities for sponsored ticket holders to meet the authors—all of which created an excitement for reading, writing, and learning.

Community Events

California Lectures partnered with other organizations to present author engagements at community venues that were open to the public.
